Dr. Homa Zadeh is an internationally renowned periodontist recognized for his clinical and scientific expertise. Dr. Zadeh is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery. He has served as tenured associate professor, of the post-doctoral periodontology (2012 to 2019), as well as Chair of Periodontology Section (2003-2006) at USC Ostrow School of Dentistry. Dr. Zadeh graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with a BS degree, followed by Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from USC Ostrow School of Dentistry. He completed post-doctoral clinical training in periodontology, as well as a PhD degree in immunology, at the University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC) School of Dental Medicine and School of Medicine, respectively. Dr. Zadeh has lectured nationally and internationally in over 30 countries at prestigious conferences on topics ranging from aesthetics to minimally invasive periodontal and implant surgery, as well as tissue engineering.Dr. Zadeh served as president of the Western Society of Periodontology (WSP) in 2017, which is the largest regional periodontology society spanning the 16 western US states and Canadian provinces.Dr. Zadeh is the innovator of the VISTA technique recognized around the world as one of the most effective methods for the treatment of gingival recession. He has also innovated many concepts and devices, which have been patented and developed into products in clinical use in many countries.Dr. Zadeh has an extensive publication track, including over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and numerous book chapters. He serves as an editorial reviewer for many scientific journals.He served as a chartered scientific reviewer to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and chaired a scientific panel at the NIH Center for Scientific Review. Dr. Zadeh has served as the director of USC International Periodontal and Implant Symposium. Dr. Zadeh is the recipient of many honors and awards, including outstanding teaching award and outstanding service award from USC Ostrow School of Dentistry and many research grants.He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Western Society of Periodontology (WSP), Academy of Osseointegration (AO), American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA), San Fernando Valley Dental Association (SFVDA) and Santa Barbara Ventura Dental Association (SBVDA).
Ronald Ordinola Zapata, DDS, MS, PhD, is currently an associate professor in the Endodontic Division of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees from the Bauru School of Dentistry at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He completed his endodontic residency program at the IB Bender Endodontic Division of the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia as well as a certificate in clinical research at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health. During his academic career, Dr Zapata has published over 110 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured in over 18 countries. He also serves at the associate editor of the International Endodontic Journal and is a member of the scientific advisory committee for the Journal of Endodontics.
He received his dental degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at Semmelweis University, Budapest (Hungary). Upon his graduation, Maciej pursued a Doctor of Medical Sciences title, obtained after pass with honors for his dissertation defense on composite inlays-onlays in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth. Maciej has been a long-time researcher and lecturer, working with dental students at the Department of Propedeutics of Conservative Dentistry of CMUJ, Krakow. During his International Association of Dental Research scholarship, he conducted research work on adhesive bridges (FDPs) as well as the restoration of endodontically treated teeth at the universities of Leeds and Manchester. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Chieti (Italy), and visiting lecturer the UIC University (Barcelona). In 2021 he became a mentor at the prestigious Kois Center in Seattle. In 1999 Maciej established his private practice “Dentist” in Krakow and maintains it with his energetic attitude and everlasting passion. Maciej takes pride in being Editor-in-Chief of the Quintessence for Dentists journal. His book, EndoProsthodontics: A Guide for Clinical Practice, has achieved success and is now published in English, Chinese, Croatian, French, and Russian. He has authored more than 80 scientific papers in both national and international journals. Maciej is also an active member in the Italian restorative dentistry research group “Style Italiano,” as well as the Polish Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. In 2019 he became a certified member of European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr. Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at Penn Dental Medicine. He received his B.S. in Physics from Shanghai Normal University in 1986 and his M.S. in Physics from La Trobe University, Victoria, Australia in 1997. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Monash University, Victoria, Australia in 2002. Dr. Zhang completed his first Research Fellowship in Materials Science and Engineering at Monash University in 2002. For his second research fellowship, which was completed in 2005, Dr. Zhang worked on a joint project among New York University College of Dentistry, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the American Dental Association Foundation. Prior to joining Penn Dental Medicine, Dr. Zhang was on the faculty at New York University College of Dentistry in the Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics. During his time at NYU, he was recognized for his commitment to excellence in research and teaching, receiving The Kathleen C. Kinnally Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement in 2018 and the Outstanding Teaching Award, given by the Faculty Council, in 2015. Dr. Zhang’s main research interests are: (1) Developing functionally graded and nanostructured materials for dental and biomedical devices; (2) Elucidating competing damage modes in all-ceramic restorations under mastication; (3) Characterizing the wear and fatigue behavior of dental materials; and (4) Improving the fracture resistance of veneered prostheses through the reduction of deleterious residual tensile stresses.
