Philipp Kauffmann is a senior consultant at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Medical Center in Göttingen, Germany. In addition to being a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, he also holds the additional qualification “Plastic and Esthetic Surgery.” His clinical and scientific activities focus on plastic-reconstructive facial surgery, implantology, and oncology in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
J. Robert Kelly, DDS, MS, DMedSc, teaches graduate prosthodontics and biomaterials at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. This follows a 21-year career with the US Navy, culminating in a tour as Commanding Officer, Naval Dental Research Institute. Dr Kelly earned his DDS from The Ohio State University, an MS in dental materials science from Marquette University, and a DMedSc in oral biology and a certificate in prosthodontics from Harvard/MIT. He is the incoming chairman of the ADA Standards Commitee on Dental Products, president of the Academy of Dental Materials, and past president of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, and he has received awards for biomedical research (Harvard), for research and postgraduate education (Association of Military Surgeons of the US), and as a clinician/scholar (American College of Prosthodontists). Dr Kelly has contributed to the dental, engineering, and medical literature, holds eight patents, frequently lectures before national and international dental and engineering organizations, still does some of his own porcelain, and keeps his fingers wet practicing prosthodontics.
Dental studies in Freiburg from 1980 to 1985, completed PhD in 1987, worked in the prosthodontics department of the dental clinic in Freiburg from 1985 to 1991 and 1994 to 1997. Conducted research funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA, from 1991 to 1993. Achieved habilitation in 1995. Appointed as director of the Department of Dental Prosthetics, Propaedeutics, and Materials Science at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in 1997. Became chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (SHGZMK) in 2004. Served as vice president of the German Society of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro) from 2008 to 2012, and as president of the DGPro from 2012 to 2016. In December 2011, became the first German scientist to receive the Schweitzer Research Award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP). Research interests include adhesive prosthodontics, all-ceramic restorations, implantology, and materials science.
Jun.-Prof. Kernen hat sein Zahnmedizinstudium an der Universität Basel absolviert und dort 2012 abgeschlossen. und war zunächst als Zahnarzt in einer Praxis tätig. Bereits einige Monate später Nach einer kurzen Tätigkeit niedergelassener Zahnarztkehrte ging er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter zurück an das Universitäre Zentrum für Zahnmedizin Basel und hat 2014 an der Universität Basel seine Promotion zum Dr. med. dent. abgeschlossen. Während der Promotionsphase ging er als International Fellow an das Department of Reconstructive Sciences der University of Connecticut in Farmington, USA. Nach Ende des Fellowships blieb er an der University of Connecticut und hat dort den Masterstudiengang "Dental Science" absolviert und zudem das “Certificate of Competence in Implant Surgery” am Department of Reconstructive Sciences erworben. Im November 2017 kam Jun-Prof. Kernen als Klinischer Wissenschaftler für Translationale Implantologie an die Klinik für Mund-, Kiefer- und Gesichtschirurgie des Universitätsklinikums Freiburg.
Studium der Zahnheilkunde an der Universität München, Assistenzzeit in freier Praxis, Promotion, ab 2014 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Poliklinik für Zahnerhaltung und Parodontologie München, 2021 Habilitation auf dem Themengebiet der additiven Fertigung, Lehrbefugnis LMU München, Erlangen des Titels Privatdozent und Ernennung zum Oberarzt, 2022 Abschluss des Master of Science (Prothetik). Seit 2024 Oberarzt in der Klinik für Zahnärztlichen Prothetik Freiburg. Verfasser diversere international und deutschsprachiger Publikationen.
