Sillas Duarte, Jr, is associate professor and chair of the Division of Restorative Sciences, and the director of the Advanced Program in Operative Dentistry, at the University of Southern California Ostrow School of Dentistry, Los Angeles, California.
Conor limits his clinical practice to the delivery of all aspects of Endodontics at his specialist, referral practice in Limerick, Ireland. His Masters research thesis focused on the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT in the detection of external root resorption. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and has co-authored six textbook chapters. He is co-author of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) guidelines and position statement on the use of CBCT in Endodontics. Conor is a member of the ESE Clinical Practice Committee, and is involved in the delivery of post-graduate education in Endodontics in Ireland in his role as a committee member and incumbent President of the Irish Endodontic Society.
Nejat Düzgünes, PhD, is currently Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He received his PhD at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1978, after which he went to the University of California San Francisco, first as NRSA Postdoctoral Fellow and then as an assistant research biochemist and adjunct associate professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, where he worked on the targeted therapy of Mycobacterium avium and the fusion of enveloped viruses, including influenza virus, SIV, and HIV, with host cells. In 1990, he was appointed chair of the Department of Microbiology at the University of the Pacific, and in 1995 he was appointed Professor. He and his team investigated the delivery of various antiviral agents, including protease inhibitors, to HIV-infected cells; gene therapy of HIV; as well as the liposmal delivery of antimycobacterial agents to M avium-infected cells. More recently, his laboratory has been working on Candida species, Porphyromonas gingivalis, broadly neutralizing anti-HIV antibodies, and the gene therapy of oral cancer. Dr Düzgünes has received several grants from the National Institutes of Health and other agencies and has been the recipient of several awards, including the United Methodist University Teacher/Scholar Award of the Year in 2015 from the University of Pacific.

Peter Eickholz is Director of the Polyclinic for Periodontology at the Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (Carolinum) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, sits on the scientific advisory board of the German Dental Journal, and is Editor-in-chief of the journal PARODONTOLOGIE. He is involved in various specialist societies and has published and lectured widely in the field of periodontology.
Ivana Elez is a dental hygienist and prevention manager at the Polyclinic for Periodontology at the Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (Carolinum) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. With extensive experience in the field of periodontology and prevention, she is active in teaching and continuing education. She is involved in various scientific societies and professional associations. The German Society of Periodontology (DG PARO) appointed her as the first certified dental hygienist in 2022.
Hanan Elgendy, BDS, MS, is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of General Dentistry, Operative Dentistry Division at East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina, where she is the director of the Dental Anatomy, Dental Photography, and Advanced Esthetic Operative courses. Dr Elgendy earned her BDS from Ain Shams University in Egypt and was in private practice for 5 years before moving to the United States in 2012. She completed a master’s degree in operative dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2016 and was a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry there until joining ECU in 2019. Her major interest is enhancing student learning in dental anatomy, dental photography, CAD/CAM, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr Elgendy has dedicated her career to teaching restorative dentistry, and she takes pride in knowing how much her students love learning how to draw teeth.
