Alena Buyx is Professor of Ethics in Medicine and Health Technologies and Director of the Institute of History and Ethics in Medicine at Technical University Munich. She has previously held appointments at the University of Kiel, University of Münster; Harvard University, and University College London; and she was Assistant Director of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, London.
Professor Buyx is a medical doctor with postgraduate degrees in philosophy and sociology. Her research spans the whole field of biomedical and public health ethics, with a particular focus on ethics of medical innovation and health technologies, research ethics, questions of solidarity and justice in contexts such as public health and health care provision, and novel participatory approaches in biomedicine and beyond. She has expertise in theoretical ethical analysis as well as in empirical, mixed-methods approaches and policy development. She is keen on interdisciplinary approaches and collaborates regularly with clinical colleagues as well as with public health professionals, political and social scientists, philosophers, lawyers or health economists.
As a PI, Professor Buyx has been awarded over 3 million Euros over the last five years for dedicated ethics research. Her work is published in high-ranking journals, such as Science, BMJ, GiM or Bioethics. She is an award-winning teacher of medical and life science students, early career researchers, clinicians and health professionals. In addition to research and teaching, Professor Buyx is active in the political and regulatory aspects of biomedical ethics, sitting on a number of high-level national and international ethics bodies concerned with policy development and implementation, and consulting for various international research consortia and policy initiatives. She has been a member of the German Ethics Council since 2016 and a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Committee on Developing Global Standards for Governance and Oversight of Human Genome Editing (2019-2021). In 2020 she was admitted to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina as a member of the Epistemology Section.
Peter Eickholz is Director of the Polyclinic for Periodontology at the Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (Carolinum) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, sits on the scientific advisory board of the German Dental Journal, and is Editor-in-chief of the journal PARODONTOLOGIE. He is involved in various specialist societies and has published and lectured widely in the field of periodontology.
Vincent Fehmer, MDT, received his dental technical education and degree in Stuttgart, Germany, before completing fellowships in Great Britain and the United States in Oral Design–certified dental technical laboratories. After working several years in such a laboratory in Berlin, he received his MDT degree and became the chief dental technician at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics in Zurich, Switzerland. Since 2015, he has been a dental technician at the Clinic for Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials in Geneva, Switzerland. He also runs his own laboratory in Lausanne. Mr Fehmer is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), and a member of the Oral Design group as well as the European Association of Dental Technology (EADT) and the German Society of Esthetic Dentistry (DGÄZ). He is a sought-after international speaker and has received many honors for his work, including the Kenneth Rudd Award from the American Prosthodontic Society. He has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals within the field of fixed prosthodontics and digital dental technology, contributed to many books, and recently coauthored the book Fixed Restorations: A Clinical Guide to the Selection of Materials and Fabrication Technology with Irena Sailer and Bjarni Pjetursson. Mr Fehmer also serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, editor-in-chief of Quintessence of Dental Technology, and Section Editor for the International Journal of Prosthodontics.

Since 2011: Editor-in-Chief of "Quintessenz Zahnmedizin". 2012-14: President of the DGZ. 2012-15: Managing Director of the Marburg Dental Clinic. 2015: Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry. 2015: Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Faculty of Medicine. 2016-18: Dean of Studies for Medicine, Dentistry, and Human Biology. 2019: President of the German Society of Dental, Oral, and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGZMK). Author of 250 articles, 35 book contributions, and two books. National and international speaker.
Prof Shahram Ghanaati is a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery with a triple doctorate in medicine, dentistry, and science (MD, DMD, PhD) from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and Frankfurt. Today he leads the Head and Neck Oncology section at the University Cancer Center at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and is an associate professor in the Clinic of Oral, Cranio-Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery there. In 2009, he founded the FORM-Lab (Frankfurt Orofacial Regenerative Medicine), a research laboratory that performs basic science and clinical studies focusing on understanding the biomaterial-based regeneration process. In his research, Prof Ghanaati has participated in the development of over 10 biomaterials from the bench to the clinic. He has worked with Dr Joseph Choukroun, the inventor of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), to develop advanced preparation protocols, and in 2016 he and his team established the so-called LSCC (low-speed centrifugation concept) for PRF-derived blood concentrates. Furthermore, he has presented more than 150 lectures at national and international congresses and has given more than 200 courses and workshops on GTR and GBR in implantology as well as on regenerative concepts and blood concentrates. Prof Ghanaati has published more than 170 peer-reviewed publications in the field of regenerative and reconstructive medicine and is a Fellow of the European Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Irena Sailer, Prof Dr med dent, is chair of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva and adjunct associate professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. In 2019, she received an Honorary Skou Professorship of digital dental technologies, fixed and implant prosthodontics, and biomaterials at Aarhus University, Denmark. Dr Sailer is editor-in-chief of The International Journal of Prosthodontics and coauthor of over 150 peer-reviewed publications as well as the books Fixed Restorations: A Clinical Guide to the Selection of Materials and Fabrication Technology (Quintessence, 2021) and Color in Dentistry (2017). She holds several patents on esthetic coatings of dental/medical devices and a digital dental splint.
